Why You Should Snack At Work!

For years the theory has stood that eating less food is better for your body and your health. Well we’re here to tell you that snacks can be your secret weapon to getting the most out of your day.

Healthy snacks can give a much-needed boost of energy, as well as:

  • Reduce stress, improve your focus and productivity during the working day.

  • Prevent binge eating.

  • Boosts your metabolism and can assist with weight loss/weight maintenance.

  • Increase our nutrient intake and allow us to get the benefits of many different foods.

  • Prevents the afternoon energy slump.

  • May benefit cholesterol levels.

  • Decreases chances of developing chronic health issues like obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Some of our favourite snacks to munch on during the day are:

  • A handful of dry roasted or raw nuts and string cheese:

This is a low carbohydrate snack which will give you a sustained supply of energy until your next meal. It is also high in protein which will help keep you feeling full. Nuts are a great way to sneak in those healthy dietary fats keeping your heart and brain healthy.

  •  Instant oats

Not only are they incredibly versatile, but oats contain an array of health benefits. They contain both soluble and insoluble fibre which can benefit cholesterol levels and stabilise blood sugar levels. You could also top with some delicious fresh fruit like bananas, berries or apple. This is a great snack which will keep your full and satisfied to power you through your day.

  • Raw veggie sticks and hummus

This tasty combo of healthy fat, fibre and protein gives you a nourishing energy boost and keeps you feeling full and energised to power you through your day.

  • Homemade trail mixes with nuts and dark chocolate chips

A mix of healthy fats and protein will power you through your day. The dark chocolate provides you with a sweet fix.

  •  Canned tuna

A great source of essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, protein and vitamin D. My tip is to opt for tuna canned in water or olive oil. You could also mix it in a salad, use as a toast topper or even spread it on some wholegrain crackers and add a squeeze of lemon juice for a zesty punch.
